HOPKINS HOUSE, Austin, TX

Built around 1860, this historic home originally sat on a large tract of land that made up much of what is known today as Old West Austin. The rubble structure was built using stones from the local draw that were placed in formwork with mud and straw. The walls were finished with plaster and a lime wash.

This project restores the historic structure from years of neglect and more recent alterations. A modern addition tucked behind the street façade houses a new kitchen, screened porch and upgraded utilities. A water retention system and solar array provide infrastructure for the site.
